The Hangover – But did you die?

We all want to be the “illest” in our business, especially when it comes to our fitness goals. Then it comes as such a surprise when that funny feeling of frazzling fatigue sets in after a monstrous gym session.
Sometimes we need to challenge our body and really put it to the test, and other times we need to observe it and know when to give it a rest. When we take care of our recovery needs, we can prevent that stifling aftershock known as burnout or fitness hangovers.
The body can get overwhelmed, not only when we ‘party too hardy’, but also when we workout to the point of weariness. What’s the point of lifting tons, if you’re only able to lift them once?
It’s humbling to be reminded of our humanness, when a keep-fit crunch time causes us to crash. In the battle to obtain vitality, there must be a delicate balance to our intensity.
It is true that “what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger”; but when what makes us stronger feels like it’s killing us, we need to supplement with recuperative exercises and mindful renewal of our energy.
At Gym Sox we understand those days when Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (known as DOMS) has you feeling dumb, numb and dreary – that’s when we put our comforting socks on, kick our feet up and simply relax.
So, the next time your hangover makes you want to cry, calm down and ask yourself but did you die?
